Are you a food lover? Do you enjoy trying out new things when it comes to food and traveling? Then you must visit Uzu Hill Park on Awaji Island, the onion-themed park that celebrates everything related to onions! Uzu Hill Park, which opened in 1999, is a unique park located in the Hyogo Prefecture in Japan. It is dedicated to onions and is an excellent place that boasts various activities and attractions for everyone.
Awaji Island produces juicy onions that have less pungency and smell. One reason for this is that seventy-million-year-old sedimentary layers produce minerals that enrich the soil and sweeten the onions grown on the island. Armed with this knowledge, Awaji Island authorities established a special theme park centered around onions.
The park also has various gardens with different varieties of onions. You can explore and learn about the history and culture of onions while walking through these gardens. The onion museum is another highlight of the park. It is an ideal place to discover the fascinating history of onion cultivation and how it has been developed over the years.
They have designed everything in the park to resemble onions, from claw machines and vending machines to pianos and chairs. Visitors can even win a bundle of onions by playing the claw machine. Uzu Hill Park has numerous souvenir shops offering a variety of onion-themed merchandise, including onion-flavored cookies, onion-shaped hats, and onion-scented candles.
The park also provides onion wigs for visitors to wear and a large onion statue for taking pictures. Entrance to the park is free, but a separate ticket must be purchased to access the Uzushio Science Museum, which costs 500 yen for adults, 200 yen for middle and high school students, and 100 yen for elementary students.
